coccidioidin skin testing
Indication:
1) intradermal skin test used in the diagnosis of coccidioidomycosis
2) differentiation of coccidioidomycosis from histoplasmosis, sarcoidosis, other mycotic or mycobacterial infection
3) may be used to assess anergy in endemic areas
Dosage: Injection: 1:100 (1 mL)
Procedure:
1) 0.1 mL of a 1:100 dilution of Spherulin (coccidioidin) in the flexor suface of the forearm
2) a 5 mm or more induration is considered positive
3) erythema without induration is considered negative
4) test is read at 24 & 48 hours
5) a positive reaction indicateds past or present infection with Coccidioides immitis
6) a negative test indicated the individual
a) has not been sensitized to the coccidioidin antigen
b) the individual is anergic or has lost sensitivity
