Function: 1) satiety factor closely associated with actions of leptin & neuropeptide Y 2) anorectic peptide inhibiting both normal & starvation- induced feeding 3) completely blocks feeding response induced by neuropeptide Y & regulated by leptin in the hypothalamus 4) promotes neuronal development & survival Compartment: secreted Expression: - hypothalamus - found in neurons of ventrolateral part of the arcuate nucleus, in external zone of the median eminence, & in terminals in periventricular part of the paraventricular nucleus - induced by leptin Pathology: - defect associated with reduced resting energy expenditure & cosegregates with obesity phenotype
