chymotrypsin (alpha chymotrypsin)

Function: - digestive enzyme, protease - cleaves peptides at the carboxyl side of Tyr, Trp, Phe - over time, chymotrypsin hydrolyzes other amide bonds, - particulary those with leucine as the carboxyl donor - formed after cleavage of zymogen chymotrypsinogen by trypsin - cleaves C-terminal Phe, Trp, Tyr, Leu, Met Expression: - synthesized in the pancreas as zymogen chymotrypsinogen, Pharmacology: see alpha-Chymar (Zolyse, chymotrypsin ophthalmic)
