chorioamnionitis

Etiology: - maternal urinary tract infection Epidemiology: - occurs in up to 2 percent of births Pathology: - an inflammatory condition of pregnant women in which the chorion & amniotic fluid are in infected with bacteria Clinical manifestations: - fever - tachycardia - pelvic pain, tenderness - vaginal discharge with an unusual smell Laboratory: - amniocentesis, culture - blood culture Special laboratory: - ultrasound visualization of fetus Complications: - maternal - abdominal infection, pelvic infection - endometritis - thromboembolid - newborn - bacterial infection, including sepsis - meningitis Management: - delivery of fetus
