chalazion; chalasia
Pathology: -occurs when a meibomian gland is blocked
- chronic sterile granulomatous meibomian gland inflammation.
Clinical manifestations:
1) subacute tender or painless eyelid lesion
2) conjunctival irritation may occur
3) minimally erythematous, may appear orange-red in color
Differential diagnosis:
- internal hordeolum (red, tender bump, may leak purulent discharge)
Management:
1) warm/hot compresses
2) treat concomitant blepharitis
3) referral to ophthalmologist for incision & curettage for persistent chalazion
