cerebrolysin

- neuroeptide mixture from purified brain extracts by enzymatic breakdown - porcine-derived collection of growth factors [5] Function: 1) has nerve growth factor like activity on DRG neurons Indications: - Alzheimer's disease - parent peptide of N-PEP-12 (MemoProve) - stroke-related aphasia [5] Dosage: - 30 mL/day cerebrolysin intravenous infusion with 0.9% saline - administered for 30 days over a 3 month perior Mechanism of action: 1) unknown, effects may be longer lasting than drug itself [1] 2) may inhibit apoptosis [2] 3) induces expression of blood brain barrier glucose transporter expression [3] 4) improves synaptic plasticity & behavioral performance in a mouse model for Alzheimer's disease [4]
