CD83 antigen; cell surface protein HB15; B-cell activation protein (CD83)

Function: - may play a role in antigen presentation or cellular interactions that follow lymphocyte activation Structure: - monomer - contains 1 Ig-like V-type domain (immunoglobulin-like) Compartment: membrane Expression: - expressed by activated lymphocytes, Langerhans cells & interdigitating reticulum cells - marker for dendritic cells - non-follicular dendritic cells - circulating dendritic cells - interdigitating dendritic cells within lymphoid tissues - Langerhan's cells - in vitro generated dendritic cells - thymic dendritic cells - weak reactivity with some lymphoblastoid cell lines & with some germinal center B cells in vivo Pathology: - expressed in inflammatory infiltrates of Churg-Strauss syndrome myocarditis
