CD48; B-lymphocyte activation marker BLAST-1; BCM1 surface antigen; Leukocyte antigen MEM-102; TCT.1 (BCM1, BLAST1)

Function: - associates with/activates lck [1] - ligand for CD2 - might facilitate interaction between activated lymphocytes - probably involved in regulating T-cell activation Structure: - contains 1 Ig-like C2-type domain (immunoglobulin-like) - contains 1 Ig-like V-type domain (immunoglobulin-like) Compartment: cell membrane; lipid-anchor, GPI-anchor Expression: - most leukocytes - activated lymphocytes - neutrophils & platelets stain negatively with antibody Pathology: - numbers of CD48+ lymphocytes decreased in paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria
