Function: - implicated in angiogenesis, transendothelial leukocyte migration & integrin activation - cell adhesion molecule expressed on platelets & at endothelial cell intercellular junctions - phosphorylated on Ser & Tyr after cellular activation Structure: contains 6 Ig-like C2-type domain (immunoglobulin-like) Compartment: membrane Alternative splicing: named isoforms=6 Expression: - long isoform predominates all tissues examined - isoform delta12 was detected only in trachea - isoform delta14-15 only in lung - isoform delta14 was detected in all tissues examined with strongest expression in heart - endothelium - platelets - macrophages - granulocytes - T cells/NK cells Pathology: - expressed in: a) epithelioid hemangioendothelioma b) vascular tumors c) histiocytic malignancies d) carcinomas & other sarcomas - rare
