CD201; endothelial protein C receptor; activated protein C receptor; APC receptor (PROCR)

Function: - binds activated protein C - role in protein C pathway control of blood coagulation - enhances protein C activation by thrombin-thrombomodulin complex - binds protein C (Ca+2 dependent) Structure: - N-glycosylated Compartment: - soluble & membrane forms - soluble form probably released by a metalloprotease - seems to have the same activity as the membrane-bound form Expression: - expressed in endothelial cells a) arteries & veins in heart & lung (strong expression) b) capillaries in the lung & skin (less strong) - not expressed in small vessels of liver & kidney Pathology: - mutations associated with a) venous thromboembolism b) myocardial infarction c) late fetal loss during pregnancy
