A term used to describe risk factors to cardiovascular events in persons with normal BMI.
Clinical significance:
- any two of hyperglycemia, decreased HDL, hypertriglyceridemia, &/or hypertension increases risk for cardiovascular events in persons with normal BMI [1]
Epidemiology:
- 21% of whites*
- 31% of blacks
- 32% of Chinese Americans
- 39% of Hispanics
- 44% of South Asians
* cardiometabolic disorder found in normal-weight persons
Laboratory:
- serum glucose
- HDL in serum
- serum triglycerides
Management:
- insufficient evidence to recommend routine screening for cardiometabolic disorder in persons with normal BMI
