carbinoxamine/pseudoephedrine (Carbiset, Rondec)
Tradenames: Carbiset, Rondec.
Indications:
1) seasonal allergic rhinitis
2) urticaria
Contraindications:
1) narrow-angle glaucoma
2) bladder neck obstruction
3) symptomatic prostatic hypertrophy
4) stenosing peptic ulcer
5) concurrent MAO inhibitor therapy
Caution: patients with hypertension
Dosage:
1) adults: 1 tablet or 5 mL syrup QID
2) children:
a) 18 months-6 years: 2.5 mL syrup TID-QID
b) > 6 years: 5 mL syrup BID-QID
Tablets: carbinoxamine maleate 4 mg + pseudoephedrine HCl 60 mL
Syrup: carbinoxamine maleate 4 mg + pseudoephedrine HCl 60 mL/5mL (240 mL)
Adverse effects:
1) common (> 10%)
- drowsiness
- thickening of bronchial secretions
2) less common (1-10%)
- headache, fatigue, increased appetite, weight gain, nervousness, dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, dry mouth, pharyngitis, arthralgia
3) uncommon (< 1%)
- angioedema, bronchospasm, depression, edema, epistaxis, hepatitis, myalgia, palpitations, paresthesias, photosensitivity, rash
