Function: - S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM)-dependent methyltransferase - mediates mRNA cap2 2'-O-ribose methylation to the 5'mRNA-cap structure - methylates ribose of the second nucleotide of an m(7)GpppG-capped mRNA & small nuclear RNA (snRNA) (cap0) to produce m(7)GpppRmpNm (cap2) - recognizes a guanosine cap on RNA independently of its N(7) methylation status - displays cap2 methylation on both cap0 & cap1 - displays a preference for cap1 RNAs S-adenosyl-L-methionine + m(7)G(5')pppRmpN-RNA = S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine + m(7)G(5')pppRmpNm-RNA Structure: - contains 1 adrift-type SAM-dependent 2'-O-MTase domain Compartment: - nucleus, cytoplasm, membrane - single-pass membrane protein (putative)
