Function: - S-adenosyl-L-methionine-dependent methyltransferase - mediates mRNA cap1 2'-O-ribose methylation to 5'-cap structure of mRNAs - methylates the ribose of the first nucleotide of a m(7)GpppG-capped mRNA & small nuclear RNA (snRNA) to produce m(7)GpppRm (cap1) - preference for cap0 transcripts - Cap1 modification is linked to higher levels of translation - may be involved in the interferon response pathway - interacts with POLR2A (via C-terminus) S-adenosyl-L-methionine + m(7)G(5')pppR-RNA = S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine + m(7)G(5')pppRm-RNA Structure: - contains 1 G-patch domain - contains 1 RrmJ-type SAM-dependent 2'-O-MTase domain - contains 1 WW domain Compartment: nucleus Expression: - induced by interferons alpha & beta, & by vaccinia virus infection
