Function:
- calmodulin mediates control of a large number of enzymes & other proteins by Ca+2
- among the enzymes stimulated by the calmodulin-Ca+2 complex are a number of protein kinases & phosphatases
- together with CCP110 & centrin, is involved in a genetic pathway that regulates the centrosome cycle & progression through cytokinesis
- mediates Ca+2-dependent inactivation of CACNA1C
- positively regulates Ca+2-activated K+ channel activity of KCNN2
- interacts with TTN/titin & SRY
- interacts with MYO1C, MYO5A & RRAD
- interacts with MYO10 (putative)
- interacts with CEP97, CCP110
- interacts with USP6, CDK5RAP2, SCN5A
- interacts with RYR1, FCHO1
- interacts with MIP, promotes MIP water channel closure
- interacts with ORAI1, IQCF1 (putative) SYT7 (putative)
- interacts with CEACAM1, RYR2, PCP4
- interacts with the heterotetrameric KCNQ2 & KCNQ3 channel
- ubiquitination results in a strongly decreased activity
- phosphorylation results in a decreased activity

- contains 4 EF-hand domains (4 functional Ca+2-binding sites)

- distributed throughout the cell during interphase
- during mitosis becomes localized to the spindle poles & the spindle microtubules
Pathology:
- mutations in CALM1 are the cause of catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia 4
- mutations in CALM1 are the cause of long QT syndrome type 14
