Indications: - evaluation of chronic lead poisoning when lead levels are within normal limits Procedure: - administration of calcium disodium EDTA mobilizes lead deposited in tissues - lead in urine is then measured Clinical significance: - a high urine lead excretion post EDTA suggests elevated total body lead - Chelation can then be used as therapy
