Ca+2-independent phospholipase A2-gamma (intracellular membrane-associated Ca+2-independent phospholipase A2 gamma, iPLA2-gamma, patatin-like phospholipase domain-containing protein 8, PNPLA8, IPLA22, IPLA2G, BM-043)

Function: - Ca+2-independent phospholipase A2 - catalyzes hydrolysis of sn-2 position of glycerophospholipids, PtdSer & to a lower extent PtdCho - cleaves membrane phospholipids - inhibited by E-6-bromomethylene-3-1-naphthalenyl-2H- tetrahydropyran-2-one (BEL) 2-lysophosphatidylcholine + H2O glycerophosphocholine + carboxylate Kinetic parameters: - Optimum pH is 8.0 Structure: contains 1 patatin domain Compartment: - membrane (putative) - perinuclear, endoplasmic reticulum & Golgi Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2 Expression: - expressed in parenchymal tissues including heart, skeletal muscle, placenta, brain, liver & pancreas - also expressed in bronchial epithelial cells & kidney - highest expression is observed in skeletal muscle & heart
