blepharochalasis

Etiology: - idiopathic Epidemiology: - more common in younger individuals Pathology: - inflammation of the eyelid - exacerbations & remissions of eyelid edema - stretching with subsequent atrophy of the eyelid tissue - nerve injury to the levator palpebrae superioris causes ptosis Clinical manifestations: - painless recurrent upper eyelid edema - formation of redundant folds over the lid margins - thinning, stretching, & fine wrinkling of the eyelid skin - ptosis - typically affects only the upper eyelids - unilateral or bilateral Differential diagnosis: - eyelid cutis laxa Management: - eye surgery
