Etiology: 1) hypercalcemia 2) other systemic conditions a) discoid lupus erythematosus b) tuberous sclerosis 3) local ocular conditions a) chronic uveitis b) juvenile idiopathic arthritis with uveitis c) phthisis bulbi d) end-stage glaucoma e) nterior mosaic dystrophy 4) drug-associated calcium deposition a) steroid phosphate preparations b) pilocarpine containing mercurial based preservatives c) viscoelastic agents (rare, early formulations; may be related to phosphate buffers) d) silicone oil e) topical medications containing phosphate buffers (especially in the setting of chemical eye burns) 5) chemical fume related a) mercury vapor b) calcium bichromate vapor c) intraocular use of recombinant tissue-plasminogen activator (rt-PA) Pathology: - calcium phosphate deposition in a band across the central cornea
