Bacillus cereus enterotoxin

Clinical significance: - type 1: - food poisoning occurs as a result of the preformed heat stable enterotoxin of Bacillus cereus - nausea & vomiting may occur 30 minutes to 6 hours after ingestion - fried rice is a frequent culprit [2] - type 2: - enterotoxins are produced by viable bacteria inside the human intestine - incubation time 8-16 hours - profuse diarrhea - a variety of foods indicated [2]
