- probable ligand for integrin in the brain
- non catalytic metalloprotease-like protein
- role in regulation of cell adhesion & spreading & in inhibition of cell proliferation
- interacts through its C-terminal region with YWHAB & YWHAZ (14-3-3 proteins) but not with YWHAE or YWHAH
- the precursor is cleaved by a furin endopeptidase

Expression:
- highly expressed in the brain
- detected slightly or not at all in other tissues
