ausculatory triangle (triangle of auscultation)

A small triangular gap in the musculature. -> formed by the lower border of the trapezius, the latissimus dorsi & the medial margin of the scapula. The absence of musculature allows respiratory sounds to be heard clearly with a stethoscope.
