ATF-like basic leucine zipper transcriptional factor B-ATF (SF-HT-activated gene 2, SFA-2, BATF)
Function:
1) negative regulator of AP-1 mediated transcription by binding to Jun proteins
2) Jun/B-ATF heterodimers bind DNA preferentially at the AP1-site (TRE) (consensus: 5'-TGA[CG]TCA-3') & weaker at the cAMP responsive region (CRE) (consensus: 5'-GTGACGT[AC][AG]-3') but are transcriptionally inert
3) forms heterodimers with JUN, JUNB & JUND
4) interacts with IFI35
5) phosphorylated
Structure:
- belongs to the bZIP family
- contains 1 bZIP domain
Compartment: nucleus
Expression:
- expressed at highest levels in lung, & at lower levels in placenta, liver, kidney, spleen, & peripheral blood
- strongly expressed in mature B- & T-lymphocytes
Pathology:
- detected in SW480 colorectal cancer cell line & in several hematopoietic tumor cell lines, including Raji Burkitt's lymphoma
