arylsulfatase I; ASI (ARSI)
Function:
- displays arylsulfatase activity at neutral pH, when co-expressed with SUMF1
- arylsulfatase activity is measured in the secretion medium of retinal cell line
- no activity is recorded when measured in cell extracts
- oxidation of Cys-93 to 3-oxoalanine by SUMF1 seems essential for catalytic activity
Cofactor: binds 1 Ca+2 per subunit (putative)
Structure: belongs to the sulfatase family
Compartment:
- secreted
- endoplasmic reticulum
- localized in intracellular granular structures
Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2
Expression:
- expressed in placenta, in embryonic stem cells, fetal eyes & lens
Note:
- according to ref [2], it has no arylsulfatase activity
