The largest of meningeal arteries. Origin: maxillary artery Branches: 1) petrosal 2) superior tympanic artery 3) frontal 4) parietal artery Distribution: 1) frontal bone 2) parietal bone 3) petrosal & superior tympanic part of temporal bone 4) anterior & middle cranial fossa (via terminal branches) Anastomoses: 1) meningeal branches of the occipital artery 2) ascending pharyngeal artery 3) ophthalmic artery 4) lacrimal artery 5) stylomastoid artery 6) accessory meningeal branch of the maxillary artery 7) deep temporal artery Course: travels in the periosteum & supplies overlying bone Pathology: -> skull fracture tearing a branch of the middle meningeal artery can result in epidural hematoma
