anterior inferior cerebellar artery

Branch-of: basilar artery Branches: -> internal auditory artery or labyrinthine artery (occasionally) Distribution: 1) cerebellar cortex & underlying white matter of inferior surface of cerebellum anteriorly 2) parts of central cerebellar nuclei 3) choroid plexus in cerebellopontine angle Anastomoses: posterior inferior cerebellar artery Pathology: vertebrobasilar stroke - occlusion may cause peripheral & central symptoms - central vertigo - occlusion of the internal auditory artery may cause isolated vertigo [4] - sudden unilateral hearing loss - ipsilateral facial weakness or anesthesia - lateral gaze palsy - Horner syndrom - nystagmus - cerebellar dysmetria - contralateral ansesthesia
