-> continuation of the external iliac artery at the inguinal ligament
Branches:
1) external pudendal artery
2) superficial epigastric artery
3) superficial circumflex iliac artery
4) profunda femoris
5) descending genicular artery
6) terminates as popliteal artery as it passes through the adductor hiatus to enter the popliteal space
