anticholinesterase toxicity (muscarinic toxidrome)
Epidemiology:
- pesticides contain organophosphates & carbamates
- physostigmine & neostigmine are pharmaceutical carbamates
Pathology:
- both carbamates & organophosphates inhibit acetylcholinesterase
Management:
- treatment for carbamate toxicity is the same as for organophosphate toxicity (see organophosphate toxicity)
