antiarrhythmic agent, Group III
Indications:
- atrial fibrillation/atrial flutter
- ventricular arrhythmias
- chemical cardioversion [4]
- cardiac arrest [4]
Mechanism of action:
- prolongs action potential duration
- class III antiarrhythmic agents block K+ channel
- thus class III agents prolong the action potential duration, repolarization, ventricular refractoriness & the QT interval
- to a lesser extent, class III agents diminish conduction velocity
Interactions
