antiarrhythmic agent, Group III

Indications: - atrial fibrillation/atrial flutter - ventricular arrhythmias - chemical cardioversion [4] - cardiac arrest [4] Mechanism of action: - prolongs action potential duration - class III antiarrhythmic agents block K+ channel - thus class III agents prolong the action potential duration, repolarization, ventricular refractoriness & the QT interval - to a lesser extent, class III agents diminish conduction velocity
