antiarrhythmic agent, Group I
Class I agents have local anesthetic & membrane stabilizing properties through inhibition of Na+ influx during phase 0 of the fast sodium channel action potential. Class I agents are further classified into Ia, Ib & 1c based upon their effects on conduction & refractoriness.
