anterior spinal artery compression syndrome

Etiology: - atherosclerosis of the aorta & its branches - aortic dissection - vasculitis (arteritis) Clinical manifestations: - quadriparesis (depending on the level of the injury) - paraplegia or quadraplegia may occur due to interrution of the corticospinal tract - impaired pain and temperature sensation - proprioception & vibratory sensation is preserved
