amlodipine besylate + celecoxib (Consensi)
Indications:
- osteoarthritis pain & hypertension
Contraindications:
- patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery
Dosage:
- 2.5, 5, or 10 mg of amlodipine + 200 mg of celcoxib
Adverse effects:
- boxed warning for:
- potentially fatal cardiovascular events
- CV events can occur early & risk may increase over time
- gastrointestinal bleeding
- gastrointestinal ulceration
- intestinal perforation, gastric perforation
- risk for serious GI events is higher among elderly
Mechanism of action:
- celecoxib alonge does not reduce blood pressure appears to act synergistically with amlodipine to lower blood pressure
