alpha-globin transcription factor CP2 (transcription factor LSF, SAA3 enhancer factor, TFCP2, LSF, SEF)
Function:
1) binds a variety of cellular & viral promoters including:
- fibrinogen, alpha-globin, SV40 & HIV-1 promoters
2) activation of the alpha-globin promoter in erythroid cells occurs via synergistic interaction with UBP1
3) component of stage selector protein complex (SSP complex)
4) facilitates interaction of the gamma-globin genes with enhancer elements in the locus control region in fetal erythroid cells
5) binds to stage selector element (SSE) in proximal gamma-globin promoter
6) binds to DNA as a dimer
- isoform 2 does not bind to DNA or affect the binding of isoform 1 to DNA
7) interacts with UBP1 & PIAS1
8) component of a complex containing TFCP2, UBP1 & PIAS1
