allopurinol/lesinurad (Duzallo)

Indications: gout (FDA-approved August 2017) Dosage: - once daily oral dosing - in the morning with food & water - stay well hydrated - drink about 2 L of liquid a day when taking the drug Tabs: - lesinurad 200 mg plus allopurinol 300 mg - lesinurad 200 mg plus allopurinol 200 mg Adverse effects: - headache - influenza - GERD - increased serum creatinine (generally transient) [2] Boxed warning: risk for acute renal failure Mechanism of action: - may diminish serum uric acid more than allopurinol alone - no difference in gout flares or tophi [2]
