Indications: - screening for alcoholism Clinical significance: Measures: 1) the quantity & frequency of alcohol consumption* 2) the presence of binge drinking 3) alcohol-dependence symptoms 4) alcohol related problems * Distinguishes AUDIT from CAGE, MAST & TWEAK Best sensitivity for use with Mexican-Americans. Procedure: AUDIT-C (VA) 1) How often did you have a drink during in the past year? - never 0 - monthly or less 1 - 2-4 times/month 2 - 2-3 times/week 3 - 4 or more times/week 4 2) How many drinks did you have on a typical day when you were drinking in the past year? - 1 or 2 0 - 2 or 4 1 - 5 or 6 2 - 7-9 3 - >10 4 3) How often did you have 6 or more drinks on 1 occasion in the past year? - never 0 - < monthly 1 - monthly 2 - weekly 3 - daily or almost daily 4 In men, a score of 4 or more is positive, in women 3 or more.
