AH receptor-interacting protein; AIP; aryl-hydrocarbon receptor-interacting protein; immunophilin homolog ARA9; HBV X-associated protein 2; XAP-2 (AIP, XAP2)

Function: - positive role in AHR (aromatic hydrocarbon receptor) signaling (putative), possibly by influencing its receptivity for ligand &/or its nuclear targeting - negative regulator of the hepatitis B virus (HBV) X protein Structure: - contains 1 PPIase FKBP-type domain - contains 2 TPR repeats Compartment: cytoplasm Expression: - widely expressed - higher levels seen in the heart, placenta & skeletal muscle - not expressed in the liver Pathology: - defects in AIP are a cause of a) pituitary adenoma predisposition b) familial isolated pituitary adenoma c) growth hormone-secreting pituitary adenoma d) ACTH-secreting pituitary adenoma e) prolactin-secreting pituitary adenoma
