age-associated changes in the urinary system
The urinary system undergoes change with aging.
Physiology:
1) decreased bladder capacity (from 600 mL to NOT < 300 mL)
2) increased urine residual volume (PVR NOT > 50 mL)
3) occasional involuntary detrusor muscle contractions
4) decreased urinary flow rate
5) prostate enlargement in men
6) decreased prostatic secretions
7) decreased Tamm-Horsfall protein
