adrenomedullin (ADM, AM, PAMP)

Function: - potent hypotensive agent & vasodilatator - control of fluid & electrolyte homeostasis - in the kidney - diuretic & natriuretic - inhibits aldosterone secretion by direct adrenal actions - in pituitary gland - inhibits basal ACTH secretion - appear to act in brain & pituitary gland to facilitate loss of plasma volume, contributing to hypotensive effect Structure: belongs to the adrenomedullin family Compartment: secreted Expression: - highest levels found in pheochromocytoma & adrenal medulla - also found in lung, ventricle & kidney tissues
