adrenodoxin reductase (ferredoxin NADP reductase, FDXR)

Function: - serves as the 1st electron transfer protein in all the mitochondrial P450 systems, including a) cholesterol side chain cleavage in all steroidogenic tissues b) steroid 11-beta hydroxylation in the adrenal cortex c) 25-OH-vitamin D3-24 hydroxylation in the kidney d) sterol C-27 hydroxylation in the liver - receives electrons from NADPH - steroid metabolism; cholesterol metabolism - interacts directly with FDX1 (putative) 2 reduced ferredoxin + NADP+ 2 oxidized ferredoxin + NADPH Cofactor: FAD Structure: - monomer - belongs to the ferredoxin--NADP reductase family Compartment: mitochondria matrix Alternative splicing: named isoforms=2
