adrenocortical hyperplasia

Pathology: 1) adrenal glands are overall normal size & weight in most affected patients 2) multiple small yellow-to-dark brown nodules surrounded by a cortex with a uniform appearance 3) moderate diffuse cortical hyperplasia with mostly nonpigmented nodules, multiple capsular deficits & massive circumscribed & infiltrating extra-adrenal cortical excrescences with micronodules 4) adrenocortical hyperplasia may lead to Cushing syndrome Genetics: - associated with defects in PDE11A gene
