adrenal (suprarenal) gland
Structure:
- a flattened, roughly triangular gland lying adjacent to the superior surface of the kidney
- it is attached primarily to the crura of the diaphragm.
Function:
- the adrenal gland is one of the endocrine glands secreting steroid hormones from the cortex & catecholamines (epinephrine & norepinephrine) from the medulla
Arterial supply:
- rich arterial supply, in contrast to its limited venous drainage, which is critically dependent on a single vein
