activity-dependent neuroprotector homeobox protein; activity-dependent neuroprotective protein (ADNP, ADNP1, KIAA0784)

Function: - putative transcription factor - may mediate some of the neuroprotective peptide VIP-associated effects involving normal growth & cancer proliferation - phosphorylated upon DNA damage, probably by ATM or ATR Structure: - contains 9 C2H2-type Zn+2 fingers - contains 1 homeobox DNA-binding domain Compartment: nucleus (putative) Expression: - widely expressed - strong expression in heart, skeletal muscle, kidney & placenta - expressed in cerebellum & cerebral cortex - not expressed in the colon - strong increase of expression in colon carcinoma & breast cancer tissues Notes: - when isolated from the sequence, neuroprotective peptide provides neuroprotection against the beta-amyloid peptide
