actigraphy

Indications: 1) evaluation of: - circadian rhythm sleep disorders - sleep related breathing disorders - sleep patterns among special populations - excessive daytime sleepiness [2] 2) determination of response to therapy 3) often replaces polysomnography when - longitudinal or large scale data sets are needed - polysomnography is not a cost-efficient option Procedure: - involves use of a portable device that measures activity over an extended period of time - measures movement of a limb & ambient light Clinical significance: -it is one component of polysomnography
