Etiology: 1) lesions of the frontal lobe or caudate nucleus a) tumors b) hemorrhages c) contusions 2) hydrocephalus Clinical manifestations: 1) diminished or absent ability to: a) initiate voluntary actions b) make decisions 2) reduction in: a) speech b) movement c) thought d) emotional reactions 3) severe apathy 4) although patients appear unresponsive, they remain alert & aware or their environment
