14-3-3 protein theta; 14-3-3 protein tau; 14-3-3 protein T-cell; protein HS1 (YWHAQ)

Function: - adapter protein implicated in regulation of both general & specialized signaling pathways - binds to many protein, usually by recognition of a phospho-Ser or phospho-Thr motif - binding generally results in modulation of the activity of the binding partner - interacts with PCTK1 (putative). - interacts with SSH1 Structure: - homodimer - belongs to the 14-3-3 family Compartment: - cytoplasm - in neurons, axonally transported to the nerve terminals Expression: - abundantly expressed in brain, heart & pancreas, & at lower levels in kidney & placenta Pathology: - up-regulated in the lumbar spinal cord from patients with sporadic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; highest expression in patients with predominant lower motor neuron involvement
