wnt4 proto-oncogene protein

Function: - required for Mullerian duct formation - in the developing ovary, appears to suppress development of Leydig cells - ligand for members of the frizzled family - probable developmental protein - may be a signaling molecule which affects the development of discrete regions of tissues - likely to signal over only few cell diameters (putative) - overexpression may be associated with abnormal proliferation in human breast tissue - interacts with PORCN (putative) Structure: belongs to the Wnt family Compartment: - secreted, extracellular space, extracellular matrix Pathology: - defects in WNT4 are a cause of Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser syndrome
