Weber test
Procedure:
- vibrating tuning fork (> 500 Hz) is placed in the midline of the skull
- this may be on top of the head or midforehead
Interpretation:
- normally, the sound should be equal in both ears
- with conductive hearing loss, sound is perceived as greater in the affected ear (lateralized to the affected ear)
- with sensorineural hearing loss, sound is perceived as louder in the unaffected or lesser affected ear (lateralizes to the unaffected ear)
