von Willebrand factor (vWF) multimers in plasma
Indications:
- evaluation of von Willebrand disease
- evaluation of mucocutaneous bleeding in patients with aortic valvular stenosis or other form of turbulend blood flow
Clinical significance:
- deficiency or absence associated with von Willebrand disease types 2A & 2B
- disruption of HMW vWF multimers due to turbulent blood flow (i.e aortic valvular stenosis) may result in secondary von Willebrand disease (Heyde's syndrome)
