very low density lipoprotein (VLDL)
Function:
- VLDL matures in the periphery, eventually forming LDL
- some VLDL may be removed via VLDL receptors
- Apo C2 present in VLDL stimulates activation of lipoprotein lipase
- Apo C exchanges with HDL in the maturation process
Expression:
- VLDL is synthesized & released by the liver with synthesis closely related to energy availability, without regard to calorie source
