Function: - most of the eye's interior (80%) is filled with vitreous humor, a gel-like substance that helps the eye maintain a round shape. Structure: - fine fibers are intertwined within the vitreous that are attached to the surface of the retina. - the vitreous humor, its fibers & capsule is the vitreous body. * image [1] Pathology: - as we age, the vitreous slowly shrinks & pulls away from the retinal surface - this is called a vitreous detachment, & is normal.
